Quick setup tips
For the cleanest workflow, start with a roster and let jersey-number tagging do the rest.
FAQ
How do I record voice notes during a tryout?
Tap the microphone button on the capture screen to start recording. Speak your observations and the app will transcribe them. Tap again to stop recording.
Do I need to say “player” before the number?
No, but it can help. You can say “12 great first touch” or “player 12 great first touch.” Tip: for jersey numbers 1–11, saying “player 6 …” can reduce confusion with position talk (e.g., “as a six”).
Does the app work offline?
Yes. Tryout Assistant is designed to work offline during tryouts. Speech recognition is processed on-device when available; in some cases Apple may require network processing.
Is my data stored in the cloud?
No. Your data is stored locally on your device. The app does not upload your notes to external servers. Your data may be included in device backups (iCloud or local) if you have those enabled.
What devices are supported?
Tryout Assistant requires iOS 17.0 or later and works on iPhone and iPad.
How do I import a roster?
From the roster screen, choose Import and select a CSV or Excel file. Keep it simple: jersey number and name are enough to get started.
Can I export team contacts?
Yes. When you build teams, you can share a Contacts CSV for communication workflows.
How do I delete my data?
You can delete individual players, sessions, or notes within the app. To remove all data, delete the app from your device.
Troubleshooting
Speech transcription isn’t working
- Check iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, and allow Tryout Assistant.
- Check iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Speech Recognition, and allow Tryout Assistant.
- If you’re offline and transcription is unavailable, try again later (some languages/devices require Apple’s network processing).
Roster import looks wrong
- Confirm your file is CSV or Excel and includes jersey numbers in a dedicated column.
- Try a minimal format:
7, John Smith(one player per line/row).
